Ordination of Luang Por Dattajeewo Dedicating His Life to Buddhism

Ordination at Wat Paknam Bhasi Charoen on December 19, 1971.

“You cannot live a worldly life, because you are a generous person. Whatever you have, you give away.”

After Luang Por Dattajeewo had met Khun Yai and other Dhamma fellows at the Dhammaprasit House, the warmth of Khun Yai’s presence and care made her seem like both a mother and a father to him. He was especially happy that he was always able to ask Khun Yai anything that came to mind. In addition, he truly enjoyed being among Dhamma fellows who frequently discussed Dhamma with each other like brothers and sisters. He felt that this was his real family.

With concern that Luang Por Dattajeewo might have the opportunity to cultivate merit with the group, Khun Yai one day warned him:

“You cannot live a worldly life, because you are a generous person. Whatever you have, you give away. You will encounter hardship if you have a family. You were born only to cultivate merit. If you are ordained, you will achieve everything. You have the right to know and see the truth recorded in the Tipitaka.”

Having heard Khun’s Yai warning, Luang Por Dattajeewo reflected on the fact that he had previously thought he knew all that he needed to know, when, in fact, he hardly knew himself at all. He needed Khun Yai to reveal his unsuitability for a worldly life, and this made it clear what he should do next. Recognizing that it was the proper time for him to become a monk, Luang Por Dattajeewo decided to take a vow and was ordained at Wat Paknam Bhasi Charoen on December 19, 1971.
