The remarkable power of Master Nun Khun Yai Acharn Maha Ratana Upasika Chand Khonnokyoong was not limited the founding of Wat Phra Dhammakaya with a mere 3,200 Baht, but also establishing a merit center where millions of devotees could practice generosity, observe precepts, and meditate, including establishing temple centers worldwide. A part of the Master Nun’s remarkable power is her ability to educate people from diverse social classes, backgrounds, and cultural levels, despite being illiterate herself. Regardless of her disciples’ backgrounds, she supports their attainment of happiness and prosperity by the Dhamma of Buddhism, allowing them to develop their life and elevate their mind.

Khun Yai Chand was born in Nakhon Chai Sri County, Nakhon Pathom province, and was the fifth child amongst nine siblings

Khun Yai Chand was working in the fields when her father passed, preventing her from asking her father for forgiveness. She was then scared that her father’s curse may come true.

Through the practice of meditation, Khun Yai Chand hopes to seek forgiveness from her father in the afterlife so she may not become deaf. Then she began to practise the five precepts, waiting for the right opportunity to occur.

Khun Yai Chandra parted with her mother and siblings. For an opportunity to enter Wat Paknam. She then went to work as a servant in Ms. Liu’s house and learned meditation from Khun Yai Thong Suk.

When the Great Master Luang Pu Wat Paknam saw Khun Yai Chand for the first time, he said, “You are late.” Khun Yai was sent an advanced group for deeper training.

During the World War I, Khun Yay Chandra continued to practice the Dhammakaya meditation diligently and was praised by Great Master Luang Pu Wat Paknam “Daughter Chand is Second to None”

The Great Master summoned all the disciples in the temple and announced that he would pass away in five years.

After the Great Master passed away, many of his disciples went their separate ways, but Khun Yai Chand stayed at Wat Paknam to take care of Khun Yai Thong Suk.

Khun Yai Thong Suk was suffering from late stages of uterine cancer. Khun Yai Chand always gave her meticulous care until she passed away.

Khun Yai Chand followed the teachings of the Great Master to spread the Dhammakaya meditation to the whole world, while waiting for the successor of the Dhammakaya meditation Luang Por Dhammajayo.

Luang Por Tattajivo first met Luang Por Dhammajayo on Loy Krathong Day at Kasetsart University.

As more and more people followed Khun Yai Chand in practicing meditation, they formed a new group called Dhammaprasit Home

As the number of people meditating in the Dhammaprasit Home increased day by day, the whole house was filled with people, and Khun Yai Chand introduced building a temple.

Mrs. Payapathaposa Wisukhatibti donated 196 acres of land in Khlong Sam, Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani Province for the construction of a temple.

Khun Yai Chand saw that Luang Por Dhammajayo had successfully completed his studies and that the conditions for becoming a Buddhist monk were met. Finally, Luang Por Dhammajayo ordained on August 27th, 1969, full moon day of the ninth lunar month at Wat Paknam.

On February 20th, 1970, Magha Bucha day, the construction of Wat Phra Dhammakaya began.

Khun Yai Chand who lived in the in the Dhammaprasit Home had been continuously supplying materials to the disciples who were supervising the project.

Luang Por Dhammajayo and Khun Yai Chand moved from the Dhammaprasit Home to Retreat Center Buddhacakka.

The Retreat Center Buddhacakka was renamed “Wat Phra Dhammakaya”.

Later, the 196 acres of land was not enough again, leading Wat Phra Dhammakaya to be expanded by another 2,000 acres.
